Application for marriage registration

Aisha Center is approved by the Kammarkollegiet to perform marriage registrations.

To ensure that a wedding can be carried out according to Swedish law, certain documents must be completed before the wedding date can be booked. Follow the checklist below and submit all documents before submitting your application.

Apply for a disability assessment with Skatteverket.
Wait and receive a certificate of disability assessment from Skatteverket.
Wait and receive the marriage certificate from Skatteverket.
Have valid identification for both parties when applying and getting married.
Submit all original documents to Aisha Center.
Appoint two adult witnesses (or inform us if you need assistance).

Wedding – Documents and checklist

In order for a marriage to be able to take place according to Swedish law, certain procedures must be completed before the wedding date can be booked. We recommend that you start the process well in advance.

1. Apply for exemption assessment with the Swedish Tax Agency

Apply for exemption at Skatteverket (Swedish Tax Agency). The agency checks that both parties are over 18 years old, not closely related, not already married or registered partners, and that any rules for foreign citizens have been met.

2. Receive the documents from the Swedish Tax Agency

After the successful completion of the impediment review, you will receive a Certificate of Impediment and a Marriage Certificate. These must be submitted to the officiant before the marriage takes place. The certificates are valid for four months.

3. Leave the documents at the Aisha Center

Submit: Certificate of medical examination, Marriage certificate, valid identification for both parties and contact details. Additional documents may be required if one or both parties are not registered in Sweden.

4. Book your wedding

When the documents have been reviewed, the date and time for the wedding are booked.

5. Witnesses

Two competent witnesses must be present at the wedding. The Aisha Center can help to arrange witnesses in some cases.

6. Name change

The person who wishes to change their surname can report this to the Swedish Tax Agency.

Important information

Aisha Center conducts legally valid weddings through authorized officiants within the Imam Malek Center Association in Sweden, which has been granted wedding authority by the Chamber of Commerce. After the ceremony, the marriage certificate is sent to Skatteverket (Swedish Tax Agency) for registration.
